A life less ordinary
When you open your eyes to a bright morning on Glen Eden Park, it is not unusual to hear the moooooooo sound of Angus the escape artist 1 tonne steer, or the neigh of the horses Darcy & Equinox to greet you as you leave your caravan & go for breakfast! On an average day, although I don't know we can call it average, as there isn't a day that is the same, we start by doing 'the rounds'. What a great way to start the day by saying good morning to all the animals! First stop is Sevi, the coil wound whippet. You can see the tension in his legs ready to explode as you reach to unclip his collar. It's a delight as you watch him go crazy for that first few minutes! Then he's quiet all day until he hears 'cheese' , whether he hears the word or the sound of the fridge opening, when there's cheese involved in any way, you can be sure Sevi is too. Next stop, the vineyard, to visit Belf and Fair the 2 dexter cows. I've become quite close with the cows, I'd go as far to call them my friends. They love harrasing the grain bucket. It's a mission trying to get into the chook pen without them following you attached to the buckets! The noises from the vineyard as you approach are like a verse from Old McDonald, a moo moo here and a baa baa there, here a cluck, there a bleet, everywhere a woof woof! Once all the animals are aptly fed and watered we move onto the pigs. There are 2 types of pigs here at the moment, the wessex, big, round, fat, quite large by my standards, and the what I'd call tea cup pigs, although I imagine if you had a cup of tea that big youd be on the loo for at least a week! Here we feed them ground grain with meat meal, it's fun playing tag with the pigs as you try to outwit them fast enough to get over to the other trough to fill up! They are smart the pigs and normally catch you up by the time your ready to tip the bucket! From here we do the barn, but be warned there is a kung fu chicken in the barn and if your not paying attention he will kung fu you, he watches with his beady eye, head tilted as you fill up the feeder and the water, looking for any opportunity to fly at you feet first! From this point in the day anything is possible, litterally anything, like a 20 tonne truck being stuck in the paddock, the entertainment as we watch the excavator struggling to pull it out, finally resulting in the other 20 tonne truck strapping itself to the truck to dislodge it from the apparently boggy ground. From there to a power cut at dinner time. If you should be anywhere in the world when the power goes out, Glen Eden Park is a pretty cool place to be, the candles come out no problem, we switch to gas to finish the dinner off, a few beers and lots of interesting conversation later and the power is off, I have no doubt its the best place to be. This is my second visit to Glen Eden Ppark and I have no doubt that I will be back again. The whole journey is a complete learning experience and I never stopped having fun and laughing. We worked really hard here and saw some great projects come together, to describe situations and an average day here just would not do the experience justice. Thank you to all at Glen Eden Park, its been a pleasure & I will be back! :)
