What we want to do in the future.
We have so many ideas and dreams, it's hard to put them all down on paper. I'll try to limit this to the ones that are most important to us and that I think will be of most interest to you.
We have started extending the kitchen. The finished room will have huge preparation areas, dedicated preserving stoves, butchery, cheese aging room, cool room, huge wash up sinks, dairy processing area, soap making facilities, dedicated baking section and wood stove. Too much to list here.
The area we call the 'wedge paddocks'. We're well on the way with this one. It will have small grazing areas, able to grow summer fodder crops. A two section poultry house, with a livestock guardian training area. This area will be a farm within the farm, with it's own rotation and management schedule.
The 22 acres. This paddock will be divided into one hectare paddocks able to be cell grazed. The paddocks closest to the house will be used to pasture the pigs when the pasture is suitable.
The Eastern vineyard. There are 2000 irrigation stations here and kilometers of trellising. Nothing growing in there at the moment as the kangaroos have hit it hard in previous years. We are going to divide it into sections of about 7 rows each. The most northern section will be planted with bramble berries, fruit trees, grapes and herbs. The lower sections will be planted with assorted fruit trees, largely apples, to feed the pigs over the summer and autumn months. We need to dog proof this area so we can run the Maremmas to keep the kangaroos out as well as predators away from the geese that will be grazing under the trees.
The workshops. We have two workshops, metal work and woodwork. The metal shop needs more walls, shelves, floors. The wood work is just posts and wall frames and needs walls, roof, floors and all the internals. Getting these finished will give us the ability to make or repair just about anything the farm needs.
Small Orchard. We have a small orchard near the house and want to develop this as a permaculture area, planted mostly with medicinal and culinary herbs as well as a selection of perennial vegetables and a few that will self sow.
Our Visitor Area. We have set aside an area a little away from the house to be developed as a camping and guest area. A bathroom and toilet building as well as small cabin containing kitchen/dinning and lounge areas are planned. We really need a hand with this one as we just haven't been able to find the time.
